After working for large collision centers for several years my husband decided to quit his job and start his own collision repair business. Now I KNOW my husband and I had discussed this ‘dream’ of his for a while now and I clearly remember stressing the importance of coming up with a business plan and the need to save some money to start the business, so the sudden decision came as a surprise that I was not ready to support THAT DAY. After taking some time to ‘reflect’ aka yell, cry, threaten to divorce, cry and sleep, I came to my senses and realized that it was going to be OK and that if anybody could pull off this dream it would be my husband (with my support of course). We ended up being those crazy fools who just dove in, started the business and are figuring things out as we go along. For a while it was tough and believe me it really does TAKE money to MAKE money. However it has gotten better and after a year of hard work, sweat and plenty of tears, thankfully my husband is now able to contribute to our family income and grow his business at the same time. We will be debt free by the end of this year. NOW is when that planning will begin. I want my husband’s business to be in that 30% that grows larger because they have a business plan and decrease the chances for failure. Planning is so important and although it would have been better to plan BEFORE we started the business, it certainly is not too late. I want to help my husband starting planning NOW rather than 5 years in the future. I loved this article because it motivates me to help my husband and dream big for the both of us.

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 14:24:12 -0400 http://vip-ngcdc.org/blog/entry/3830258/business-planning-makes-you-more-successful-and-weve-got-the-science-to-prove-it-#comment4232180 /blog/entry/3830258/business-planning-makes-you-more-successful-and-weve-got-the-science-to-prove-it-#comment4232180 Small Business Tax Lessons - Darriel Robinson
Wow! This blog was helpful and insightful. As a waitress back in 2004, i found out that i owed 1700.00 dollars in taxes. I paid them off immediately but 1730.00 was all i had in my savings account and that was a major lost. Since then i have become a good steward of my taxed and record keeping. When i started my cleaning company this year in October, i knew from the start that i wanted to start off on the right foot as a business owner. I went and got my state and city business licenses. i legalize my company name down at the courthouse. I even purchased insurance and created a web page for my company. I knew this blog was for me, because i take things like properly filing taxes very serious. I do not want anymore problems with the IRS, so i made sure i was doing everything right from the beginning. I keep accurate record of all payments received and i keep all my receipts for business purchases. I thank God for Nehemiah Gateway because since the day i first walked into their office, my life has been changed for the better. I was glad to find out that they offer free help with small business taxes because i need it. I am also in need of a reliable accountant, does anybody know one?
Mon, 29 Dec 2014 01:13:53 -0500 http://vip-ngcdc.org/blog/entry/3699537/small-business-tax-lessons#comment4226107 /blog/entry/3699537/small-business-tax-lessons#comment4226107 10 Ways to Maximize Your Home Office for Productivity - Jhmira Alexander
The consulting business varies and there is much growth in this industry. What works in our favor as a social media marketing & web design company is that there will forever be a learning curve as more and more social media platforms and techniques are introduced. While some business owners have a working knowledge of the medium, they don’t have the time to keep up with growing trends and most importantly how to make them work for their particular business.

That’s where 29Eleven Consulting comes in.

Our eyes are forever peeled looking for opportunities to connect our clients with as they operate their business or organization. We work alongside our clients to get a true idea of their businesses identity and the statement that defines them in their industry. As that is established we educate the client on the services we offer and how the online tools we use supports their goals. We review analytics and are realistic with our analysis. We are mindful of factors such as time frames, deadlines and approach in determining the validity of the date provided.

Overall, we put things in perspective for our clients. We don’t drum up ideas and concepts for the sake of attaining business. We gather information that will aid them in realizing their purpose.
Tue, 23 Dec 2014 00:43:02 -0500 http://vip-ngcdc.org/blog/entry/3726207/10-ways-to-maximize-your-home-office-for-productivity#comment4225919 /blog/entry/3726207/10-ways-to-maximize-your-home-office-for-productivity#comment4225919 When Is the Right Time to Pay Yourself a Salary? - Daniel DeJesus
I think we all can be better then the break even in the first year if we work hard towards are main goal for the business are foundation of the business usually happen in the first year so sacrifice in our personal life is required to build a strong foundation.

2. It takes much discipline and assessment to be effective.
Sun, 07 Dec 2014 00:36:33 -0500 http://vip-ngcdc.org/blog/entry/3726207/10-ways-to-maximize-your-home-office-for-productivity#comment4225046 /blog/entry/3726207/10-ways-to-maximize-your-home-office-for-productivity#comment4225046 Funding Sources for Your Nonprofit - Cassandra Harmon
As a licensed massage therapist and educator, working in the areas of health care, I've seen a tremendous need for pain management, post-surgical care, trauma needs, and the like in virtually every population. Low- and moderate-income families appear to be the most challenged in accessing consistent care for their health (and wellness) needs due to rigidly fixed budgets. The limiting access and/or knowledge of health care - and other aspects of daily living (e.g. social skills, consumer sciences, career training & readiness, emotional support, etc.) prompted me to incorporate the Evolving Wellness Center this year. The vision has been 10 years in the making. It's birth is 2014.

Fundraising and self-sustainability options are always as the forefront of any program endeavors. Collaborating organizations have been sought to offer support in program implementation, as well as cohesiveness in purpose when requesting grant funding. I chose to use private foundations as my starting point. They seem to be more accessible: clear objectives, less paperwork, and easier to contact in contrast to government grants options that I've reviewed.

In-kind donations and corporate sponsors are very accessible too. I do agree that relationship building and management is important. I've started my giving tree program based on simple word-of-mouth requests to family, friends, and clients. They have been happy to offer clothing, food donations, and volunteer time if needed. It is my core belief that reputation, preparation, purpose, prayer, and commitment will yield success - in small or grand steps.

Fundraising is a consistent work. It requires creativity, management, resourcefulness, and integrity. Legislation is often evolving to demand the transparency of non-profit organization and how they allocate the donated resources. As a business owner and a consumer, I am in agreement with these transparency measures. It fosters a greater sense of trust and honor in the systems.

As a final note, the Evolving Wellness Center is launching it's first clothing give-away near 12/19/14. We currently seek a donation of $1200 to cover the expense of a website design and the IRS application filing fee for the 501(c)(3) tax determination status. Your support of any kind shall be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for sharing this great blog item.

~Cassandra Harmon, MBA
Founder/President & CEO
Evolving Wellness Center
(302) 685-9428
Wed, 03 Dec 2014 20:14:39 -0500 http://vip-ngcdc.org/blog/entry/3792624/funding-sources-for-your-nonprofit#comment4224853 /blog/entry/3792624/funding-sources-for-your-nonprofit#comment4224853 10 Ways to Maximize Your Home Office for Productivity - Cassandra Harmon
Finding a good "flow" for a home-based business can be challenging. I own a massage therapy practice that allows me to work outside of the home for events and client care; however, the administrative functions are normally addressed from my home office.

The dual nature of the work demands that I make [more] time to organize my schedule for the administrative aspects of the practice. Seeking to grow the vision this year demands much more efficient time management - and technology. My home office appears to be moving into my car... my lunch breaks... and my happen-stance meetings more often. As such, I incorporate more 'smart' devices to keep information and business tools accessible.

Despite all else, the home office has the best feel. It sits in the midst of my sanctuary (i.e. my home); it offers the creature comforts that make it easy for me to work (i.e. attire, decor, etc.); and it reminds me daily of the joy that entrepreneurship brings!
Tue, 15 Apr 2014 14:44:06 -0400 http://vip-ngcdc.org/blog/entry/3726207/10-ways-to-maximize-your-home-office-for-productivity#comment4208248 /blog/entry/3726207/10-ways-to-maximize-your-home-office-for-productivity#comment4208248
